A Mini Tourney and a Final played in the memory of the genial and affable Kurram Shah. Amitabh Sheth and the entire St. Columba's community are phenomenal hosts and give meaning to what club cricket is all about. The match was played in tremendous competitive spirit, that was left on the field as we crossed the proverbial ropes. The "ground-cooked" food cooked in the traditional Afgani and Pakistani traditions was scrumptious and plentiful. Wine and whisky the perfect companion while some folks went for the hookah. A day that was a treat for the mind, body and the cricketing soul. Kudos to The St. Columba's CC- thank you for a memorable day !From St. Columba's CCA great day of Cricket today! We hosted BGSC for the 2019 Mini-Tournament Finals, which was also a Memorial Match for Farrukh Shah.BGSC won the finals by 4 wickets chasing down 195 in 27.5 overs. Some good performances by both sides: Kamal, Raj, Bikram Singh, Imran Jeelani, and Sahil Sharma.Thanks for Umpiring Rahul Lall!Some photos below from the match!

Boston Gymkhana Sports Club wins its first tourney

Boston Gymkhana Sports Club wins its first tourney of 2019 Challengers Cup organized by Challengers Cricket Club.BGSC and Lagaan CC has each been undefeated in the league phase of the tourney and reached the finals taking a different route. Lagaan scored a mammoth 191 to crush their opponent, while BGSC eked out a win with 2 balls to spare. This match was expected to be a thriller as both teams had met at yet another finals, held just a few months ago in the fall of 2018, SCCC Invitational Tourney. BGSC had prevailed by the proverbial whisker in that exciting match. For the BGSC members this seemed like an intra-club match with the likes of Abdul Samad, Waqas Nawas, Omar Virk, Muqeet Ahmad, Jatin Karvir and Hashim Khan all ex-BGSC members. This was a truncated 16 over match- on this cold dreary day- this match was played with red hot intensity. Taking the conditions into account, run-a-ball was a par score and probably defendable. That meant a score of about 100. A few loose overs a slew of dropped catches and some aggressive batting saw Lagaan CC reach an above par 135 in the allocated 16 overs. One of the biggest moment of the match and probably a potential turning point was Muqadas Raza's first ball Golden Duck. Abhirup Banerjee, the wily and smart campaigner had stuck a vital blow. Lagaan did recover, but were left to rue- what would have it been ? PKC aka PavanPutra and PJ got BGSC to a good start. PJ departed for an explosive 28- an early aggressor who set the tone. BGSC was 63 for 1 at the end of 6 overs, still needing ~7.5 per over and now the ball was heavy. A middle over assault on the dangerous Muqadas Raza and Omar Virk 16 runs each and the continuing aggression and superb running between the wickets by Parminder and PKC meant BGSC had won by scoring around 12 RPO and with ~30% of the balls remaining. An astounding feat. A very well organized tournament by Ritesh Shrivastava and the Challengers Cricket Club Team indeed. Under sordid conditions Ritesh Shrivastava and the Challengers team still managed to serve warm and delicious food and get the game on.
